USB Serial Driver

I bought an SC300 and inherited AEM series 1 EMS. I bought a Win7 Pro 64-bit HP laptop just for this purpose but have fought with it all night and can't get a connection. I have no clue what brand the USB/Serial adapter cable is (it came in the car) so I can't really go to a manufacturer's website for the driver. When I try to connect to the ECU it says "USB2.0-Ser!" driver not found. I thought maybe it's just a serial/usb issue so I chose to work offline in AEMPro and then tried going to ECU > Serial, but the cable is not listed in the dropdown. Choosing USB does nothing as well. I'm sure it's a driver issue with Windows, but I've updated all the HP drivers for this model and even tried some 3rd party drivers for USB to Serial adapters and have gotten nowhere. I'm doing a gazillion Windows updates now hoping for a miracle tomorrow. Why is there not just a generic driver that AEM provides for all their ECUs??

Just to make sure I'm not in error, I had the car turned off and no key in it. I power up AEM Pro, then plug in the USB. I hear Windows do the bell sound so it sees the cable is plugged in. But the software won't recognize the connect. So I tried turn the key on and still nothing. In terms of COM ports, I can't really do anything because I don't think the proper driver is installed so I can even get far enough to recognize which port needs switched for AEM's purposes. I'm so lost lol, any help would be awesome before my last few hairs get yanked out.

Go to your local electronics

Go to your local electronics store and pick up a Serial to USB cable that has a brand that you are able to locate a driver for.

That makes sense BUT there is

That makes sense BUT there is no guarantee the cable I choose will cooperate with your unit. I've read hundreds of posts on different forums with people all saying the same thing I am. they buy brand X and it works for one guy and not for another. I'm sure user error is possible too, but I can't believe an ECU manufacturer can't even provide a cable with a driver, or at least tell you brands that are known to work. Back to searching...

FYI for anyone else who runs

FYI for anyone else who runs into this issue. I bought the RadioShack cable (Gigaware brand) and the drivers did work. I had read others had issues with thi but this did work. Hopefully that helps someone else down the road.

This ECU had produced 2001.

This ECU had produced 2001. At 2001 all computers had serial ports so a simple serial cable was perfect and noone had problems.
If you can find an old laptop with serial cables you will make your life easier..

If you will continue with usb you will have nightmares like me with theese f@cking cables.
