Connecting the AEM 12 poition trim switch to AEM 6100 box

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to install the AEM 12 position trim switch to my 6100 box and was wondering the following.

After reading this from the 6100 manual in the fuel pump control section:

"The EMS Output COIL8 (Pin 22A) is used to send a 5V signal instructing the OEM fuel pump"

and

"As supplied from Toyota, the OEM ECU interfaces with a fuel pump ECU to control the speed,
high or low, of the fuel pump based on load. The AEM EMS has the ability to replicate this
functionality; however it is configured in the Startup Calibration to run the fuel pump at high
speed at all times.
" which from my understanding means by default is sending constant 5v.

Does that make Pin 22A an extra available 5V output that can be used with the AEM 12 pos. trim switch if left to "high speed aka 5V" only and not being used for anything else?

I'm already using other outputs for my fuel pumps w/ relays.  I hate to tap into the only 2 other 5V outputs which are being used already, although at one point, I'll need another 5V for my oil pressure gauge.

Any other available 5V outputs from all those unused Auto transmission outputs besides 11B, 41B?  Also any other unnoficial sensor grounds available besides the 2 listed? (28B, 65B)

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

You should probably stick

You should probably stick with tapping off of dedicated sensor power pins.  While the coil triggers are on the same 5v regulator on the PCB, they're not designed to take much load and could affect the voltage output of whatever they're hooked up to.  This probably isn't as big a problem on a 12 positions switch because the voltage output isn't critical but for something like oil pressure, it's best to use the intended sensor power pin.

Thanks for the quick response

Thanks for the quick response.  So you think I should be fine if just using the 12 pos. switch with the LS8?.  I'll definitely tap into the 2 dedicated sensor power pin and sensor ground for the oil pressure sensor as I am currently doing for my fuel pressure sensor.  I'm waiting to receive some extra 2J terminals to properly tap into the sensor ground and eventually the dedicated 5V sensor outputs

Thanks again.

I don't really know that you

I don't really know that you'd be "fine" to use the coil output for 5v on the 12 pos switch but being that's it's less critical, it's potentially something you could try.  We know that the 5v signal from the coil works to trigger the stock fuel pump ECU but we don't typically use coil outputs to power sensors.
