Can Bus logging

Hello,

I plan to equip my future bike (BMW S1000RR or Kawasaki ZX10R) with the AQ-1 and would like to record some paramaters (traction control, RPM, lean angle, ...) through the Can bus.

Is the software already ready for it or do I need to wait for an update?

Thanks for the answer,

Don't wait an update.... that

Don't wait an update.... that CAN-log feature is forget now (I bought this box for CAN logging, but it's newer come).

The AQ1 press release on AEM

The AQ1 press release on AEM's site still says "Configurable CAN bus for interface with other manufacturer's CAN-enabled devices (Coming soon, free download)"

That page has been up since 2012 - the feature is about 2 years late now. I also purchased mine based on this statement and am frustrated by the delay.

mirrors in case the press release goes away:

Hi Sporf,

Hi Sporf,

I have had same issues with AQ-1 and can bus, and decided to mak emy own little device. I bought a Arduino and a can bus shield. Google this and you will find more information. I then transmittet data on the AQ-1 bus as if my device was a AEM device(EMS). Then canbus works perfect.

It is a bit difficult but doable.

Best regards

Mads

YES, it is doable, BUT.... If

YES, it is doable, BUT.... If AEM promise that AQ-1 can do a CAN-bus data.... why anyone need to do more?????

Could you provide more

Could you provide more details on how you did it?

If I understand correctly, you have connected the AEMNet pins to your Arduino, which does the translation with the Can bus informations?

How do you configure which tags have to be logged then? Directly from the AEM software or through a configuration of the Arduino?
Also, what logging speed could we reach?

Thanks for your infos ;)

PS: ultimately, this should be included in the AQ-1 functions, as initialy advertised

Hi Neoraptor,

Hi Neoraptor,

sorry for my late reply.

My issue at the time was that I was running out of analog channels, and needed a solution-
I bought an arduino and a can bus shield, and then I made the arduino read analog sensors and I then transmitted them on the canbus like there was a EMS attached to the AQ-1. So i had can Hi and low from arduino to the aemnet pins on AQ-1. I got some help on learntotune.com because I needed the adresses, a brilliant site with clever people.
You can see that thread here: http://www.learntotune.com/discussions/topic/aemnet-can-bus-structure/

The AQ-1 is only listening for aemnet devices so that is why I had to use same can addresses like the EMS. I cant remember but I think it was around 100 hz but not sure, it has been a while. I just sent data on the bus and then configured the channel in aem data to match my needs. It worked very well, but a 100% factory CAN implementation is needed, and why I am not using the device anymore.

I think the AQ-1 is okay, but there is some issues, like a serial GPS? I made a solution with a bluetooth to serial, and then bought a 20 hz bluetooth gps.

Mach1000,

Mach1000,

I envy your programming abilities.  I've picked up a Mega & can shield and hope to be able to replicate your results.  I've been struggling a bit and have seen where you've talked about this working on a couple other sites. Would you be willing to share anymore info on your setup?

Configurable CAN

Configurable CAN functionality in the next AQ-1 firmware update? angel

Does AEM have any plans on giving the end user the option to log from the canbus?  This logger is great and is one of the best on the market, but with the limited inputs, it's frustrating not having use of the canbus.  The opportunities for this logger with a configurable canbus/J1939 integration would be endless.  Initially I believe there was to be a OBD2 compatible logger, and it seems to have dropped off the map.

There's hoards road racing guys that would be using the AQ1 if they could plug it into their obd2 port.....
