Installing AEM FIC on Ep82

Hello,

I have a toyota GT Starlet (Ep82) and I'm trying to install the FIC on it.
I've wired everything in and the car won't start, but if I plug in the jumper it starts and idles fine.

Here is how I wired it in:

This is the ECU pinout of my car

CRKO + => PIN 21 NE (TO ECU)   CRKI + =>NE (TO SENSOR)
CRKO - => PIN 16 E2 (ECU) CRKI - => (SENSOR)
CAMO + => PIN 8 G1 (ECU)  CAMI + => (SENSOR)
CAMO - => PIN 16 E2 (ECU) CAMI - => (SENSOR)

INJ1 IN => PIN 12 #10 (ECU)   INJ1 OUT (SENSOR)
INJ3 IN => PIN 12 #10 (ECU)  INJ3 OUT (SENSOR)
INJ2 IN => PIN 25 #20 (ECU)  INJ2 OUT (SENSOR)
INJ4 IN => PIN 25 #20 (ECU)   INJ 4 OUT (SENSOR)

MAF OUT => PIN 4 PIM (ECU)   MAF IN (SENSOR)

IGN PWR => CONNECTOR 2 PIN 9 +B (TAPPED)

PWR GND => PIN 24 E1 (TAPPED)
PWR GND => PIN 26 E02 (TAPPED)
SIG GND => TO BODY GROUND

If everything is connected like above the car wont start. If I pull the sparkplugs to check for spark
only cylinder no 3&4 are giving spark, but not continuesly.
If I put the CAM AND CRK sensors back to stock the car starts fine.

What could be the problem here?

Hello Ritesh,

 

Sounds like you have already determined your problem and it is directly related to teh CAM and/or Crank. Try scoping your CAM and CRANK signal with and without the FIC installed. The scope trace should give you a better idea of how much the factory signal is being altered/distorted before making its way back to the factory ECM

 

In order to fix the signal you will need to wire in a pull-down resistor from the signal to the sensor ground. The size of the resistor that you should use will depend on the info you gathered from the scope trace. Make sure it is a 1/4 watt resistor. Should you not have access to an oscilliscope, get your hands on a variety of resistors that would range from 1k up to 5k so that you can do a trial and error process until you get an acceptable result (your vehicle starting).

Just and addition, start with maybe a 2k resistor, and if it starts rev up the engine to be sure it revs up completely.  Work up or down on the resistors, untill you determine what size resistor gets the results you need.  You will know your close when the engine will rev up.

I'm not familiar with your cars setup, but do you have the right sensor chosen? Mag or hall?   Just a thought

I got thecar to start, instead of using the sensor ground I used the common ground (G-)
The car starts fine No crank or Cam dtc's revs fine everything. sometimes it does take few cranks before it starts but it could be because of the tps.
I have 1 trouble code if I rev her a little, code 51 TPS sensor, as soon as that is solved I'll check with a timing light if the FIC retards timing.

Hi,

Hi,

instead of sensor ground I used G- comon ground
I cut G- and used the wire from the ECU side as crk mago- and cam mago -.

that's all.

I hv the same issue starting

I hv the same issue starting up my car!
I hv connected crank + to NE, crank - and cam - to G-(your ecu)/ NE-(in my ecu).
But i cant find the positive for cam. In your ecu its G1 pin number 8. But in my ecu the pin is blank! Though my 4efe ecu have same pinouts as 4efte ecu (except few).

Any idea how to feed cam positive signal to aem?

does your car have a distributor or does it have 2 coils?
