Timing Maps

Good morning, I'm a newbie with a recently added 508 Series and have a couple of questions.

I have 4 ignition maps in the IgnMaps tab, but shows that I am using Ign Map 1, and Ign Map 2. If I have a Flex sensor, does that mean the first map is for gas and the second is used when I run E85 ?

If I am strictly runing E85, can I just modify my second igniton map that appears when I click on the Flex Ign tab for whatever boost I'm running ?

thanks,

rick

The short answer is yes but you should check one thing first.  This was recently discussed here: https://www.aemelectronics.com/forum/flex-fuel-blending

There are four igntion maps and you can technically blend to any of them.  What you need to check is what your ModeSelect_IgnBlend table is set to blend to.  If it's set to 2, then IgnMap_2 is the ignition map being blended to.

And yes, once you figure out which ignition map you're blending to, you can adjust that table assuming you're on that map 100% based on your IgnBlendTable.

ModeSelect_IgnBlend top row

ModeSelect_IgnBlend top row are all 2s, so that means I'm blending TO Ign Map #2,correct ?

I only run E85 but flex % shows 75 % on the Ign Blend Table, so at 0.7 and 0.8 I'm at 70 and 80% flex content, correct ?

So I can just modfy Ign Map #2 only, correct ?

Yes, correct.

Sorry but I'm not really understanding what you're getting at here.  What matters though is regardless of actually content value is what the blend value is.  This tells you how much the blended map is influencing your final timing value.

So in the example above, the blended map is driving the timing value 100% at content values of 70% and higher.  This table is adjustable so you can make the 100% blend occur at lower or higher content values.  If your blend value isn't 1, then you're getting some percentage less than full value from the map.  You need to look at your blend values, not content values, to determine what blend you're at.

Even if you're not at 100% blend, you'd still adjust the map you're more closely blended to in order to change your ignition timing by the value you want.  Make a map change, do a pull or test run while taking a log and then review the data.  The data will show you what's going on.
